After weeks of speculation and uncertainty, Ghana’s most popular boxer on the local scene, Brimah Kamoko (Bukom Banku) has accepted to fight his challenger, Bastie Samir next year.
Banku made the declaration as he stormed the news conference for the George Ashie v Allan Kamote bout (scheduled for Friday, December 5) at the Accra Sports Stadium on Monday. Banku who wore a t-shirt over what could be described as hot pants stood up and broke into one of his infamous speeches to make his declaration in the local dialect Ga.
“I was supposed to be on this McDon Promotions bill but so many things came up. There were a countless number of issues I just couldn’t deal with at the time. I have called McDon Atitsogbe to apologise for the inconvenience,” the boxer said with his usual tone of confidence and humour.
According to Banku, he has settled all outstanding issues with the promoter and are ready to fight.
“I will fight Bastie Samir and I will prove to all that defeating him is very simple,” Banku told the news conference with a grin.
By this declaration, Banku has ended several months of speculation concerning his next fight after his initially scheduled WBO Africa Cruiserweight bout against his challenger John Napari was cancelled due to the latter’s failure of the standard medicals. Some notable opponents including Maxwell Amponsah and Bastie Samir dared Banku on many occasions but he refused.
The two pugilists are undefeated with Banku having bigger experience. He (Banku) has gone 27 fights clean and has the annexation of the WBO Africa and ABU light heavyweight titles to show for it. Bastie, an Olympian and former Captain of Ghana’s amateur Boxing team, the Black Bombers has 14 wins and a draw making up his professional record.
McDon Promotions has also confirmed that Bukom Banku v Bastie Samir will come off on Independence Day March 6, 2015 at the Accra Stadium. “Now that all is set we will give the people this much-awaited bout next year.
It is now sealed and confirmed. Bukom Banku and Ayittey Powers treated Ghanaian boxing fans and millions accros the continent via Super Sport, to a well-attended local grudge bout on May 16 at the Accra Sports Stadium in a cruiserweight contest.
The two boxers will feature on the Ashie-Kamote bill on Friday December 2 with a musical performance. Banku will do the singing while Ayitey Powers will do the dancing.
