The Paramount Chief of Talensi in the Upper East Region, Tong-Rana Nab Sabalug Nemalteng, has appealed to the warring factions of Bawku to give peace a chance.
He stressed the need for the factions to look beyond the present and allow peace to prevail for the sake of posterity, saying, "I am very much upset about the conflict situation in Bawku".
The Paramount chief made the appeal when the Upper East Regional Minister, Mr Mark Woyongo, paid a courtesy call on him in his Palace at Tongo in the Talensi Nabdam District.
He reminded the warring factions to settle their misunderstandings using dialogue and not weapons.
Naba Sabalug Nemalteng said many Mamprusis and Kusasis had intermarried and had nurtured good families, maintaining that such good family relationships should not be destroyed.
He said he would go to Bawku to talk for peace and convince the two factions to stop the fight so as to pave way for development in the area noting that the conflict in Bawku was not only affecting the area but the entire region.
Upper East Regional Minister Mr Woyongo, who was in Tongo to interact with the National Democratic Party (NDC) executives and see how the party was faring in the area, commended the Paramount Chief for maintaining peace and the successful enskinment of some of his sub-chiefs.
He urged chiefs in the Region to emulate the Paramount Chief of Talensi to ensure that peace prevailed in the Region.
