The summer Olympics in Paris is now just 72 days away, and Ghanaian athletes are racing against time to book qualification for the games.
So far, only Ghana’s 4x100m men’s relay team have booked their place in Paris, with the individual events still up for grabs.
This past weekend saw a number of Ghanaian athletes in action, in their respective attempts to qualify for the games.
African Games High jump Champion, Rose Yeboah claimed gold in the Big Ten outdoor championships with a winning height of 1.82m.
That feat is still some 15cm short off the automatic qualification mark of 1.97m.
Saminu Abdul Rasheed outclassed his opposition and clocked a new Pb of 10.03 seconds in the men’s 100m, claiming gold at the AAC Outdoor championships. Saminu also claimed gold in the 200m with a time of 20.34 seconds.Â
Ibrahim Fuseni, who just missed out on a medal at the African games, won the sprint double at the Southland Outdoor track and field championships claiming gold in both the 100m and 200m events.
Fuseni clocked a winning time of 10.15secs in the 100m and 20.32secs in the 200m.Â
Newest member of Ghana’s 4x100m relay team, Isaac a Botsio, successfully defended his 100m title at the Lone Star Conference, clocking a time of 10.18secs.
Deborah Acheampong ran the 8th fastest time in West Texas A&M athletics history, recording a time of 23.53 seconds to take gold in the 200m at Lone Star Conference Championships.
Ghana’s long distance star, William Amponsah, won his first Lone Star Conference Outdoor Championship title in the men’s 10,000m.
Amponsah run 31:03.85 minutes to annex gold in his debut outdoor collegiate Championship.
The automatic qualification mark for the men’s 100m is 10 seconds flat, with the 200m qualification time set at 20.16.
Athletes have up until the 30th of June to make the qualification mark, to stand a chance of qualifying for the games.
