Parliament is expected to go through a hectic week as some major bills will be read and discussed starting July 18, 2017.

Some of these bills the House will be busily considering are the Office of the Special Prosecutor, the Zongo and Inner City Development and Development Authority Bills.

The Office of Special Prosecutor is anticipated to create a lot of debate in parliament during its reading.

Some minority Members of Parliament had pointed out that the Office on its creation, might be used for political witch-hunting.

However, Deputy Attorney General, Joseph Kpemka, who disproved with the claim, said: “this will not be the case because. The person will be appointed for seven years”.

He added that, within those seven years, the Prosecutor cannot be hired and fired at the pleasure of the president.

Mr. Joseph Kpemka also stated that “it will be a spectacular guarantee for the person to perform his duty without fear of removal or intimidation from any person”.

The President, Nana Akufo-Addo, has said that creation of the office of the prosecutor is government’s biggest effort to deal with corruption in public office.

Speaking to BBC earlier this year, the President said by establishing an office of a Special Prosecutor or somebody who will be independent of the executive, his remit will be to investigate and tackle issues of corruption.

Also, Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta and six others are also expected to answer some 18 questions. These will also comprise of questions on the cost of organizing the Ghana@60 celebrations.

Vice President Dr. Mamudu Bawumia also hinted that preparations are being made ahead of the passage of the bill on the creation of the three development authorities.

He said that "we are asking for the 10 member teams in each region to be constituted so that you will now begin to look at the assessment and the needs of the various constituencies".

Zongo and Inner City Minister, Abubakar Sidiqque, also said he is very optimistic when it comes to passing the bill. He believes that the bill will not suffer any setback.

He added that "every MP has Zongo in this country so I don't think we will have serious challenges when it is placed before Parliament.

He noted that Ghanaians will begin to see the fruits of the Zongo development fund after the bill is passed.
