Founding Director of IMANI Ghana, a local think tank is proposing that workers should be paid weekly instead of monthly, to properly assess productivity.
Mr. Franklin Cudjoe said this is one of the surest ways to control the huge losses incurred on the government pay roll.
Mr. Cudjoe stated on Adom Fm’s Dwaso Nsem on Tuesday, that the losses on government pay roll do not correspond with productivity. “The pay roll is defunct, not the best and serving some people’s interest”, he stressed.
Franklin Cudjoe was commenting on the announcement of a 20% rise in the minimum wage from by the National Tripartite Committee which pegged the new minimum wage at GH¢3.73 from the previous GH¢3.11.
He said the current pay roll system is unable to capture arrears accounting for close to 90% of government waste.
For this reason he suggested that salaries and wages should be paid at the end of each week to clean up the rot in the pay roll system.
The IMANI Boss called for a mental revolution among workers to change their attitude to work.
He however said the current technological challenges can be fixed as a major approach to cleaning up the system.
He said the existing trend in which government is the largest employer in the country, should be reversed in order to ease pressure on the government pay roll.
