Plan Ghana has donated an amount of GH¢50,000 to government’s Covid-19 Fund to support the fight against the novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic in the country.
Presenting the package to government at the Ministry of Information, the Country Director of Plan Ghana, Solomon TesfaMariam noted that Plan International Ghana donated to the national COVID trust fund and the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social protection to support the vulnerable and socially excluded in the fight against Covid-19.
He said the organisation believes that the fight against the Coronavirus pandemic is not for the government only neither is it for just citizens to fight.
“We need all hands on deck from corporate organisations to Non-Governmental, Not-for-profit Organisations such as ours to come on board.”
He further said: “We call on everyone, no matter how small you might think your donation is, it will still go a long way to aid in the fight against this pandemic.”
Mr TesfaMariam said the organization hopes the pandemic will cease in time to allow businesses spring back and curb the high rates of unemployment that has span across the country especially amongst the youth.
“The youths are the backbone and workforce of this nation and many of them have been laid off and this increases the unemployment rate in the country. We need our children back in school and this pandemic is causing a major retrogression in our educational system. The shift is massive”, he added.
The Plan International Ghana team commended the government and the Information Ministry for their swift responses given to end COVID-19.
They also advised the general public to observe all the health protocols as outlined including, frequent washing of hands with soap under running water, use of alcohol-based hand sanitizers, properly disposing of tissues after use and also ensuring the social distancing protocol.
“We know it hasn’t been easy but they have been on top of their game, minimizing the spread. Ayekoo to all of you”, he said.
