Rt Rev Dr Yaw Frimpong-Manso, the Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, has urged politicians, the clergy and the media to give their institutions a "new look" as the nation prepares for its 50th Anniversary.
He said this would win for them public confidence that has eroded because of certain actions and inactions.
"The public have perceived that the stated bodies have stagnated national development," Dr. Frimpong-Manso said in Accra on Wednesday at a reception organised for two retired officers of the church.
The officers are Mr G.B.K. Owusu, First Public Relations Officer and Samuel Tanor, Estate Officer.
He said politicians have been accused of being responsible for the nation's economic chaos, the clergy of being spiritually apathetic and the media of biased reportage, running programmes tainted with insults.
The Moderator urged the media to focus on issues that have the propensity to unite the people instead of fragmenting it.
He said the clergy were prepared to partner the media to build a virile, healthy and a stable democracy.
"The church and the media are veritable partners for development and this symbiotic co-operation should not be allowed to wither."
He condemned the recent assault on journalists and urged the security agencies to investigate and take action against the perpetrators.
The moderator and his wife presented and unspecified amount to Mr Owusu and Mr Tanor.
The retired officers said they would forever cherish memories of the co-operation and assistance they received from past and the present moderator, saying such assistance helped them to chalk success.
