President John Dramani Mahama has urged the Black Stars' technical team and the management, to build a strong team to win the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
The Black Stars booked their place at next year’s World Cup in Brazil after a massive 6-1 first leg thrashing of Egypt in Kumasi despite losing 1-2 to Egypt in Cairo last Tuesday.
President Mahama congratulated the playing body, the technical team and management when they visited him on Wednesday at the Flagstaff House.
The President again charged the technical team to build a strong team to be able to beat the highly ranked teams that would be represented in the tournament.
“Now that we have qualified the harder work begins, it’s easier to qualify than to win the cup, cup you need a certain tactical discipline, best teams in the World are going to gather on one stage and the whole nation will be watching so this is the time the hard work has to start to get all the players together to blend the team. Find qualified Ghanaian players wherever they are and train them properly, give them the stamina, fitness and all they need to be able to play against the best in the World,” said President Mahama.
“We have acquainted ourselves very well when we went to Germany, we again acquainted ourselves very well in South Africa, we don’t want to say we did well, we almost got there I mean this time we have to try and get there and so let’s all do what we can to ensure that this time we are able to bring the cup back home to Ghana, that will be the greatest, greatest gift you will ever give the people of Ghana.”
