President John Dramani Mahama has officially nominated the Member of Parliament for Builsa North, James Agalga, to serve as Acting Majority Leader of Parliament.

The nomination was communicated to the House during the emergency sitting of Parliament on Monday, August 24, following the recall of Parliament at the behest of the President.

Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin read the President’s letter conveying the nomination to Members of Parliament.

The development comes as Parliament begins a five-day emergency sitting to consider urgent business outlined by the President.

The sitting, which runs from Monday, August 24 to Friday, August 28, is also expected to consider the nominations of three persons to the Supreme Court, two ministerial nominees and the Banks and Specialised Deposit-Taking Institutions Amendment Bill.

Speaker Bagbin has directed the House to restrict its business to the matters for which it was recalled and indicated that no other business would be admitted during the emergency session.
