A mentally deranged man that allegedly raped a young lady who later killed herself out of humiliation at Eguabirso in Agona Swedru has eventually been put into the Accra Psychiatric Hospital commonly called Asylum.
Until then his presence was a source of constant discomfort and worry for women in the Agona District particularly its capital, Agona Swedru in the Central region.
According to reports, he was taken away through the initiative of one Mohammed Abdullai, a volunteer with the group Basic needs, Basic Rights, an NGO which is a new initiative in mental health and development in Accra.
Mr Abdulai Mohammed said he became equally worried when he heard about the unpublished misdeeds of the mad man, who roamed the Swedru Township and the entire district freely.
In the specific case of the beautiful girl, he is reported to have raped the girl who found fingers pointing at her anytime she was walking through the town. She happened to be a beautiful woman and since there was no hiding place for a gold fish, she is reported to have reasoned that suicide would save her from all the humiliation of having been raped by a mad man.
According to Mr Mohammed, he informed his senior colleagues and after assessing the situation they realised that Kwesi Asante was really a nuisance. They therefore set themselves to the task and worked tirelessly to get him out to Asylum in Accra.
Other district authorities gave their blessing to the undertaking to make it a success. They include the Agona District Chief Executive, Hon Ben Mensah, the Agona Swedru District Police Commander, Deputy Superintendent of Police, B.B Bakomora and the Agona District Environmental Health Officer, Mr Essilfie and his deputy George Freeman.
Also lending his support to the effort was the Assemblyman of Yaabamu, one of the 14 Electoral Areas in Agona Swedru, Eric Ofori Amanfo.
Speaking for the group, Mr Mohammed said they did it for the safety of the women in the district.
