Aide to former President Rawlings, Kofi Adams has confirmed the NDC founder last Thursday held a meeting with President Mills at the Castle.
Mr. Adams will however not disclose details of the meeting except to say it lasted a few minutes.
It is the first time in many months the two have met, albeit for a short period.
Ex-president John Rawlings has publicly criticised the sitting president for what he says are acts of corruption in government and failure to prosecute past government officials.
The criticisms have led to a rather sour relationship between the two with reports the ex-president and wife are behind the formation of a new political party; National Democratic Party.
Thursday's meeting, media reports suggest, is the latest attempt to reconcile differences between the two.
The Daily Guide newspaper also reported the two were in Equatorial Guinea at the invitation of that country’s President to mediate in the matter.
Kofi Adams however denied this in an interview with Joy News.
He said the ex-president was invited by the president of the Equatorial Guinea but was quick to add that at no point did Mr Rawlings meet President John Mills in Equatorial Guinea.
According to him, Mr Rawlings visited President Mills at the Castle to find how he was doing after he returned to the routine check-up in the US.
Adams said the meeting was short and cordial but will not discuss the details.
