Government has announced, former President Rawlings will lead its delegation to the funeral of former president of Zimbabwe Robert Mugabe.
The 95-year-old freedom fighter and first president of Zimbabwe died September 6, in Singapore and is expected to be buried Saturday September 14.
Former President Jerry John Rawlings had eulogised the late Robert Mugabe in a tweet which described the Zimbabwean leader as a man who lived for “the dignity of your fellow black”.
“RIP Comrade Mugabe. You lived for the dignity of your fellow black. Your African pride, dignity and audacity were unassailable.
"Africa has lost a bold and noble Statesman. My condolences to the government and people of Zimbabwe,” the former Ghanaian leader tweeted.
But days later, Jerry Rawlings expressed shock at a GTV anchor who described Robert Mugabe as a rebel leader.
“…to hear the newsreader on GTV yesterday refer to the late Mugabe, a former freedom fighter and leader as a rebel leader, was not only shocking but truly disheartening” he tweeted.
