Search continues for survivors or bodies in Monday’s accident involving students of Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem Nursing Training College in Kumasi, as police order for head-count of students.

Police  suspect some victims could still be trapped under the school bus which plunged into a deep valley on the Lake Bosomtwe Road, killiing one of the students.

The body of the deceased female student was retrieved Tuesday morning by a joint team of police and fire personnel, more than 24-hours after the accident.

The bus, carrying over 40 students on a holiday trip to Lake Bosomtwe somersaulted several times before landing in the valley about 150 meters deep.

Trees along the buses path were uprooted as the bus veered off the road in a sharp curve.

Personal belongings of the victims, including shoes, dresses, socks and braziers were scattered at the scene.

Police say it would need cranes to be able to bring the bus from the valley.

Asokwa Divisional Acting Commander, Supt James Annor, who was at the scene and also visited victims at the hospitals, cannot believe that all the occupants, except one, survived the accident, though he suspects some victims could still be trapped under the bus.

“We are so grateful to our maker that majority of the students survived because, if you look at how deep the valley is, infact we could have recorded a tragic situation yesterday,” he told Nhyira FM.

He has ordered for head count of all students to establish the reality.

School authorities are also not in a position to give the exact number.

Meanwhile, relatives of victims have been trooping to hospitals to see their loved ones.

At least, forty of them are on admission separately at the St. Michael Catholic Hospital, Komfo Anokye and the Kuntenase Government Hospitals.

Authorities at the St. Michael Catholic Hospital are happy the victims are fast responding to treatment.

Administrator, Ben Kwabena Sintim said many of the twenty victims brought there have been discharged, leaving only seven on admission at the hospital’s special ward.
