The second lady, Samira Bawumia, through the Samira Empowerment for Humanitarian Project (SEHP), has provided educational resource materials to schools in the Akuapem North Municipality in the Eastern Region.

The Foundation is aimed at strengthening and promoting early childhood numeracy while providing a sound mathematical foundation for pre-primary students.

In all, over three hundred (300) children from ten (10) schools in the Akuapem North Municipality in the Eastern Region benefitted from the initiative.

The gesture includes the provision of textbooks, workbooks and teacher's guide as well as training of teachers on the use of attractive and colourful tools to make mathematics a fun subject for our kids in kindergartens across the country.

The beneficiary schools include; Manfre Methodist Primary, KG, Akorase Methodist KG, Amanokrom Presby KG, Larteh Methodist KG, Orange stars KG, Larteh Roman Catholic KG, Larteh Presby KG, Larteh Salvations KG, Larteh MA KG, and Larteh Anglican KG.

Addressing a gathering of Chiefs, students and a section of the public at Larteh, she indicated that the future of Ghanaian students is very key and the objective is to provide a strong foundation for their effort made for schooling and also drive their comfort.

“This initiative is very dear to my heart because it concerns the future of our children. It provides the opportunity to build a strong foundation for our children,” said the Second Lady.

According to her, “It is my vision to contribute significantly to raising the next generation of leaders and critical thinkers in the next generation in our dear nations. Over the years, we’ve embarked on many interventions in line with this vision, and it is for this reason that SEHP is embarking on this initiative to provide educational materials to at least 200 pre-schools across the country.”

She explained that the objective of the initiative is to improve and develop early childhood numeracy and to provide pre-primary school pupils with a solid foundation in mathematics.

She affirmed that the Foundation does not only donate books, but provides training to teachers on how to utilize the books.

She, therefore, encouraged the teachers to effectively utilize the books to the benefit of the children.

The Eastern Regional Minister, Seth Kwame Acheampong, lauded the gesture of the Second Lady and promised on behalf of the schools, to make good use of the materials for the benefit of all.
