Sellas Tetteh would be hoping for a win in the West Africa Football Union (Wafu) tournament which kicks off on Friday. Ghana, drawn in Group B would open their Wafu Cup campaign in Ughelli in Nigeria's Delta State, against Senegal on November 28, before taking on Guinea two days later and a game against familiar opponents, the Gambia on December 2. Despite the competition being a preparatory one for the Black Satellites who have qualified for the African Youth Championship next year, Sellas Tetteh would be seeking to land silverware. “We would be using it to get our team ready for the African Youth Championship. This is not our full squad but it’s an opportunity for us to know where we’ve gotten to and also serve as a platform for the players to stake a claim for places. “Even without the full squad, we have our work cut out. We don’t intend to be just participants but also go for glory,” said Tetteh as he left with his squad of 18 players on Wednesday. Ghana claimed the last Wafu Cup when it hosted and won a four-nation tournament in Accra in 2005. However the tournament has gone through some changes since the Black Satellites won it at home three years ago. The revised tournament is scheduled for Nigeria from November 28 to December 7 and it has received some funding following the announcement of a US$4m sponsorship deal with telecommunication company Globacom last year. According to the competition rules, the first two clubs from each group after the round-robin will progress to the quarterfinals, with the winners advancing to the semi final stage. The Wafu competition would also see hosts, Nigeria who are paired in Group A alongside Togo, Benin and Guinea Bissau. Group C consist of Cote d'Ivoire, Burkina Faso, Sierra Leone and Mauritania whilst Mali, Cape Verde, Niger and Liberia make up Group D. Ghana squad: 1. Joseph Addo 2. Philip Boampong 3.
