Former Egyptian national team coach Hassan Shehata is the new head coach of Zamalek.
He replaces Hossam Hassan who was sacked after Zamalek finished second behind great rivals Al Ahly at the end of the Egyptian league.
Shehata resigned as Pharaohs coach in June following a 0-0 draw against South Africa in a 2012 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.
The decision to sack Hossam Hassan did not go down well with Zamalek fans.
One of the fans groups popularly known as White Knights Ultras has accused Zamalek's board of being ungrateful to Hassan's achievement of leading the team from 13th place to second.
They were planning to hold demonstrations on Wednesday in front of the Zamalek club headquarters to show their disapproval of the decision and for appointing Shehata.
According to the contract, Shehata will be paid US $42,000 per month.
Egypt FA Media Director Azmi Megahed said the process is underway to recruit a new national side coach.
He said among those being considered along with others is Portguese Nelo Vingada who has coached Zamalek in the past.
