St. Louis Past Students Association (SLOPSA) Kumasi Chapter is celebrating a historical achievement of Professor Grace Nkansa Asante, as the first-ever Ghanaian female professor of Economics.
The alumni group proudly recognizes this milestone as a significant honour for their alma mater and the association.
Professor Grace Nkansa Asante, an alumnus of St. Louis Senior High School and a lecturer at the Department of Economics, became the first female in Ghana to be conferred the academic title of a professor of economics following approval by the University Council.
Having worked in the teaching field for close to two decades, Professor Nkansa Asante's scholarly endeavours primarily focus on economic policy analysis, monetary economics, and financial economics.
She is currently vice dean at the Faculty of Social Sciences of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, KNUST.
As a devoted member of the alumni association, Professor Nkansa Asante’s new feat is a noteworthy contribution to elevating the name and image of St. Louis Senior High School.
SLOPSA Kumasi chapter acknowledging the accomplishments organized a celebratory event where members eulogized her for her hard work, determination, and exceptional leadership qualities.
The Acting President of SLOPSA Kumasi Chapter, Mavis Osei Boateng expressed admiration for Professor Nkansa Asante, highlighting her role as a former president of the chapter and her current position as Vice President of SLOPSAN Global.
“She’s been very useful to the chapter and we are happy to celebrate her. She has a brilliant way of critiquing. She is down-to-earth, humble, ready-to-learn and affable. For us she is an icon, so we cherish her so much,” she said.
During the celebration, Professor Nkansa Asante expressed her recognition of the vital support from her school, family, and friends in achieving her successes.
She emphasized the importance of this collective encouragement in her journey and dedicated her accomplishment to the enduring spirit of the St. Louis community.
“God has been good. I didn’t even know about this feat. And now everybody is celebrating me. And I’m very grateful to all my loved ones. It was hard to combine a lot of this with my academic work and my colleagues were supportive and understood me,” she said.
Professor Nkansa Asante’s accomplishment is a landmark setting a precedent for Ghanaian women in academia and an inspiration to the St. Louis community.
