Intermittent power disruptions at the National Theatre Friday night nearly marred the premier of Spectrum Films' Flash Fever.
The disruptions frustrated producers and movie lovers alike but movie enthusiasts endured the frustrations and watched the movie to the end.
Their endurance was not in vain as they cheered and clapped constantly in response to humorous scenes.
The premier was hosted by veteran actor David Dontoh who emphasised the need for Ghanaians to support and cherish locally produced movies saying that was the only way they could support the industry to grow.
Other actors and movie producers who graced the premier included Naa Ashorkor-Mensah Doku, Socrates Safo, Eddie Nettey.
Some stars of the movie, Ewurabena Bray, Solomon Odoom, Nana Sofoa Aseidu and Paa Kwesi Oppong Boamah were also in attendance.
After cultural performances and an introduction of the cast, eyes were now glued to the giant screen mounted at the National Theatre for the premier.
Flash Fever tells the story of Frema, a poor but hardworking young lady burdened with the responsibility of taking care of her sick mother and her unemployed siblings.
Frema had her dream of becoming rich fulfilled, but in return, she and her family paid a price, a very high price for this sudden riches and luxury.
It all starts when Frema accepted a once in a lifetime gift from a total stranger. It seemed too good to be true; a mansion, a fleet of cars and enough money to enjoy good life. To top it all, her elder brother married a new wife, Akos.
Akos who claimed to be the rightful owner of Frema’s lifetime gift was caring, sweet and honest. She was eager to please, but there is more to Akos than meets the eye, she was the devil’s incarnate.
Akos tormented Frema and her family. Frema lost two of her brothers to this brutal torture visited on them by the merciless and foppish Akos. The battle she waged against Frema and her family was to retrieve the properties bequeathed Frema, claiming she was the rightful owner. Frema had to turn to God for the security and survival of the rest of the family which saw them through.
Akos died at the end losing the battle.
Writer, director and executive producer of the movie Emmanuel Oppong Boamah disclosed in an interview with Myjoyonline.com after the premier that after the hard work, it was heart-warming to see people enjoy the movie.
He said the movie is different from movies on the market and that, “what makes the movie different is that, you see a lot of new castes bringing in a breath of fresh air. To see new talented young people coming out with their best, that alone is even a reward in itself. I took them through three months of training and the result was what is on the screen.”
“...we were trying to tell a story that every Ghanaian can easily relate to, a story that you can have an emotional connection with and then to cup it up, we delved into this area of special effects which is unprecedented not only in Ghana, I have watched a number of African movies but you are not going to see this kind of graphics in any of them,” Emmanuel Oppong Boamah added.
Flash Fever will also premiere in Kwahu in the Eastern Region on April 2.
