The Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) has increased by hundred percent the monthly pension benefit for contributors, Corporate Affairs Manager of the Evangeline Amegashie has said.

This therefore means that pensioners under the scheme will receive a monthly payment of not less than 200 Ghana cedis henceforth, which is far higher than the national monthly minimum wage.

Speaking to JOY NEWS on the reason behind the adjustment, SSNIT Corporate Affairs Manager noted that section 80 of the National Pension's Act obliges the Trustee  to increase pension benefits every year.

Evangeline Amegashie noted that all pensioners under the Trust will be getting an increment of 10% of their previous pension in addition to a flat amount of GHC9.52.

According to her, if after the increment, and any monthly pension benefits fall below  200 Ghana cedis, SSNIT will automatically work it up to 200 Ghana cedis, which is the minimum pension benefit under the act governing the Trust.
