Dancehall artiste, Livingstone Etse Satekla, better known by his stage name Stonebwoy has likened the lyrics of his latest single 'Putuu' to tongues-speaking.
This comes after some critics attacked the Afropop star for his choice of words in his new hit song.
But in an interview on Luv FM's Oseikrom Top 10 chart show, Stonebwoy asked his critics to first explain the tongues they say in church before they demand an explanation for the lyrics in his song.
“Music chose me so whatever it tells me to say, I say it. I can say the unknown language you are hearing I think it’s tongues-speaking because I am praying”, Stonebwoy said.
He further explained music is spirit and language that has no barrier hence the acceptance of East and South African songs in Ghana despite the language used.
Synchronization of the melody, beat, concept and the key to Stonebwoy is the most important thing and his song ‘putuu’ has it.
Although his fans cannot get enough of the new song, others have compared him to Patapaa.
But Stonebwoy sees nothing wrong with the comparison, “I am not angry at all if you compare me to Patapaa. I have respect for everybody, I am one of the big musicians who have featured on his song. We all danced to ‘one corner’”.
“When Stonebwoy comes to mind you should know that there is nothing he can’t do. If you give me Tico I will drive it, I am just like a driver. If you are an international player you should be able to play everywhere”, he told host of the show DJ Reuben.
According to the artiste, the unknown language was just a melody to be replaced with actual lyrics.
The melody he sent to a few friends who loved it will leak, forcing him to officially release the unfinished song which was already trending on social media.
“If Ghanaians and the world love putuu ‘whom am I ?’, let’s jam to the song. It is the street anthem now,” he added referencing NPPs Ashanti Region Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako popularly called Wontumi.
He hopes the song which is meant to make people happy achieve the purpose than being overtaken by the controversy surrounding the lyrics.
