Deputy Minister nominee for Roads and Highways, Alhassan Suhuyini, has reiterated the Mahama administration’s commitment to prioritizing the development of untarred roads across the country.
During his vetting before the Appointments Committee of Parliament on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, Suhuyini highlighted key factors that will guide road development, including high traffic volumes, densely populated areas, and access to agricultural production zones.
He also emphasized the growing importance of tourism in determining infrastructure priorities.
“The considerations have been high traffic areas, areas with high population, roads leading to agric production areas, farmlands, and all of that. And I think that tourism has also become an area that can attract the need for roads to be prioritised,” he stated.
Suhuyini further noted that ultimate decisions on road prioritization would be led by the Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Agbodza, in consultation with President Mahama.
“The Minister, working with the president, will give the guidance and the direction as to how the ministry will prioritise roads that will be constructed within the period. It’s sad that in this era we still have roads that are untarred. I’m very confident that together with my minister we will do our very best to prioritise some of these roads,” he added.
