Women Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Joyce Zaynab Mahama has denied claims the governing party is splashing money in its bid to snatch the Talensi seat from the NPP.
She said the claims that the party is giving voters a Ȼ1,000 to vote for its parliament candidate BT Baba in the Talensi by-election are baseless and unfounded.
Mrs Mahama said if the NDC had that much money, it will invite the voters to Accra and share the monies to them here instead of going all the way to Talensi to do so.
She was speaking on Adom FM’s morning show ‘Dwaso Nsem’ Thursday.
What is the point in campaigning when we know we could just give each voter money to win the seat, she asked.
She said those spreading the lie know that NDC is winning the seat and that the only way they can console themselves is by spreading falsehood.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has accused the governing NDC of vote-buying ahead of the Talensi by-election.
The NPP’s Youth Organizer, Sammy Awuku claims that the electorates in the constituency are being given È»1,000 each, bags of cement and other items.
The Talensi seat held by the New Patriotic Party (NPP), became vacant when the MP, Robert Mosore resigned after his enskinment as Tongo chief.
The former MP is now known as Tongorana Kubilsong Nalebegtan.
The NPP only won the Talensi seat in 2012 when the MP-turned-chief snatched the seat from former NDC MP John Akologo Tia.
The NDC and NPP have been the only two parties that have held the Talensi seat since 1992. The NDC has held the seat five time out of six.
However, analysts have said the NPP stands a chance of winning the seat again in the July 7 polls.
But Hajia Mahama says there Is no way the NPP will win the seat again.
She believes that the developmental projects undertaken by her party is reason enough for the constituents to vote for the NDC.
The seat belongs to the NDC and we are winning it. The people of Talensi are not interested in money they are more concerned about things that improves their livelihood, she said.
