A taxi cab in the early hours of Thursday tumbled into a huge open drain near the VIP bus terminal at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra.
Joy News' Julius Caesar Anadem, who was at the scene, reported that the drain was dug by a contractor tasked to widen it as part of measures to reduce flooding but the drain has been left virtually unattended to.
An eyewitness told him that the incident occurred at around 5am when the taxi in an attempt to avoid a collision with an oncoming truck veered off the road and tumbled into the drain containing stagnant water.
The eyewitness added that passersby had to mobilize to rescue the driver and two passengers, a lady and a child, from the vehicle.
