The acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Shippers Authority (GSA), Professor Ransford Gyampo, has stated that neutrality is not an option when one is tasked with addressing wrongdoing within the system.
In a Facebook post made hours after President John Mahama appointed him as the CEO of the GSA, he wrote, "There can be no neutrality when one is tasked with helping to right what is wrong in the service of the nation."
He thanked the President for the appointment and expressed his gratitude for the many congratulatory messages he received, promising to contribute to the nation’s development: "Thank you, Prez Mahama, and humbled by the many congratulatory texts. I’ll serve Ghana."
Professor Gyampo emphasised that he would "remain the Yaw Gyampo that you all know."
Before this new role, he served as a political science professor at the University of Ghana and had been vocal on many national issues, earning a reputation as an independent-minded figure in the fight against wrongdoing within the system.
President John Dramani Mahama has been commended for appointing individuals believed to be non-partisan to various roles in his government in an attempt to do away with the country's winner-takes-all system.
