The Deputy Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah, and the Deputy Eastern Regional Minister, Mr Ahmed Baba-Jamal, have cut a sod for the construction of a small town water project system for the people of Akyem Wenchi, Dwenase and Apinamang.
The Akyem Wenchi project, which would cost about GHc 882,651, includes the construction of a mechanized borehole with water treatment facility for the removal of iron in the water.
It also includes an overhead tank for distribution of the water to individual houses as well as the construction of 20 stand pipes in the town.
The Dwenase and Apinamang project would cost over GHc 789,000 and would have similar facilities as that of Akyem Wenchi.
Mr Afriyie-Ankrah appealed to communities that would benefit from the facility to put in place an efficient water management committee to ensure that the system is managed well.
Mr Baba-Jamal called for unity in the Kwaebibirim District, urging all the people in the area to put their hands to the wheel for the country to see fast development.
Nana Amoah Kuko Ntiakwa, Dwenasehene, appealed to the government to provide Dwenase and Apinamang with a Senior High Secondary School and also to tar the major road connecting the two communities.
Earlier, Mr Baba-Jamal had inaugurated the ground floor of the Kwaebibirim District Education Directorate.
He also inaugurated a new GHc 385,843 grader to facilitate the rehabilitation of feeder roads in the district.
Mr Baba Jamal also presented 15 bicycles to 15 Community Child Protection Committees in the district to help monitor and stop the use of children on cocoa farms when they are supposed to be in school.
