Three suspected armed robbers who attacked a house at Adenta Sakora were yesterday shot dead by the police. The robbers, who are yet to be identified, were alleged to have entered a house about 2 p.m. wielding locally-made pistols, kept the whole family under hostage and ordered them to surrender all their monies and other valuables or be killed. After the members of the National Crime Scene Management Team had taken the fingerprints of the dead men and obtained other clues to help establish their identities, their bodies were deposited at the Police Hospital mortuary pending further investigations. The Deputy Accra Regional Police Commander, ACOP Christian Tetteh Yohonu, said during the alleged attack on the occupants of the house at Adenta, one of the occupants managed to call the police to come to their rescue. He said the message was quickly relayed to the patrol teams around the area, which quickly rushed to the scene and announced their presence by firing warning shots.Instead of surrendering to the police, the robbers also returned fire and during the exchanges they were shot dead by the police.Mr. Yohonu commended members of the public for offering information to the police, adding that fighting crime was a shared responsibility. He said the robbers were believed to have been involved in a series of robberies around Adenta and its environs and advised members of the public to have the police emergency numbers at their fingertips to enable them call the police anytime they were attacked by robbers. The victims and members of the community expressed their appreciation to the police for the timely intervention. On November 4, 2010, five suspected armed robbers who attacked a house at East Legon in the morning of that day were killed by the police in a fierce gun battle.A sixth accomplice, who managed to escape from the scene after sustaining gunshot wounds on the left shoulder and arm, was, however, arrested later on the motorway by the police patrol team. One shot-gun and four locally made pistols, together with ammunition, were retrieved from the suspects after the incident.Source: Daily Graphic
