The Regent of the Awomefia of the Anlo Traditional Area, Togbui Sri III has inaugurated a seven-member committee to manage the Awomefia Hogbe Development Fund.
The Fund was established by Togbui Sri III, known in private life as Mr. Francis Nyonyo Agboada, to help eradicate poverty in the traditional area.
Speaking in an interview with Joy News after the inauguration of the committee, Togbui Sri said the development fund is also aimed at ensuring that children in the area gain access to education.
Already some children in the area have dropped out of school because they lacked financial support and according to the Regent, the Fund was thus set in part to solve that problem.
“We established the committee to help to identify the needy but brilliant children in various communities in the Anlo areas now but that is not the only job they are doing.
“They have to identify the artisans since some of the children may be interested in learning a trade so we are presenting 50 sewing machines to citizens in the Anlo traditional area in which all the 11 divisional areas have their fair share.”
The Regent said the Fund is not limited to only Anlos but for Ghanaians as a whole, except that in order to ensure it succeeds in its objectives, it was starting on a pilot basis with the project with the Anlo Traditional Council.
