Two young men, Christian Dewortor, 24, and Komla Amedoe, 23, both kente weavers residing at Dzodze in the Ketu North District, were grabbed last Wednesday by the Volta Regional Police at the Kporvi Barrier for possessing a pot containing a substance suspected to be human blood, when the vehicle they boarded was stopped for a snap check.
Also found in their possession during the arrest was a live cat wrapped in a fertilizer bag which they said belonged to one Agbeko, who asked them to buy it for him, and an empty yellow gallon.
The suspects told the Police they were on their way to consult a fetish priest with the pot of blood at Dededo, a town in the Ho Municipality, when they were arrested.
The Volta Regional Police Commander, ACP David Nenyi Ampah-Bennin, told the Daily Guide that the blood has been sent to the forensic laboratory to find out if it is truly human blood, for further action.
The suspects have however told the Police that the blood is that of a fowl.
According to them, Amedoe fell sick sometime back and so he consulted a fetish priest at Dededo who told him that someone had buried a juju item at his workplace which he said resulted in his sickness, hence the need to reverse it.
The said fetish priest, according to the suspects, therefore gave Amedoe the pot of blood which he buried at his workplace as instructed by the fetish priest who further instructed that they should exhume the pot and return it if he was not responding to treatment.
According to Amedoe, he was responding to treatment until Monday when the pot was accidentally uncovered by the weaving activities of some of his colleagues.
He narrated that fearing that the wrath of the gods might come upon him as a result of the alleged accidental removal of the pot of blood, he immediately informed his fetish priest who instructed him to return the pot to him at his base at Dededo.
DAILY GUIDE gathered that the Police were however not convinced by the story because the pot they claimed had been buried for sometime now was looking very new.
According to police sources, there was no trace of materials such as sand or mud on the pot to suggest it had been buried and removed.
The Volta region has in recent days witnessed some bizarre incidents which ranged from ritual killings to people possessing human parts- a development that has put fear into residents.
This latest arrest has therefore inspired awe among residents who are impatiently waiting to know the outcome of the forensic test on the pot of blood.
