The University of Ghana French Club last Friday launched a campaign to boost French studies in Senior High Schools (SHS) across the country.
The campaign dubbed "Ghana High School French Tour" was launched at St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Accra.
The event attracted scores of students and staff from the French Department of the University of Ghana.

Speaking at the launch, UG French Club President, Gilles Ametepe stated that the programme was to make the language easier for students to understand.
"…the aim of the tour is to demystify the French language and support the president’s initiative to make French mandatory in SHS across the country and promote the interest of students in the language", he said.

Speaking to myjoyonline.com after the programme, Mr Ametepe reiterated the desire of the French club to spotlight the need to study French.

Gilles Ametepe
"At the UG French Club believe French is the future and there is a clear need for us to bring that to public knowledge and encourage the learning of the language everywhere across the country,” he stated.
Mr Ametepe added that “Ghana cannot be the leader in Africa and challenge World leading economies if we fail to have a certain mastery of French”.
The next stop of the tour is at Accra Wesley Girls High School on March 14.
The tour is expected to cover Greater Accra region before going to other regions as part of the Club's painting ''Ghana in French" initiative.
