Former President John Agyekum Kufuor says he will carry out his task of rallying world leaders on climate change with dedication because the job is service to humanity.
He says even though the task is daunting, “it is a cause worthy of everybody’s attention.”
Mr. Kufuor has been appointed a United Nations Special Envoy on Climate Change.
UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki-Moon appointed the former President and former Norwegian Prime Minister, Jens Stoltenberg to lead the crusade on Climate Change.
The two former leaders are to assist Heads of State and Governments around the world in mobilizing the political will to garner support for the 2014 Climate Summit that will be held in New York in 2014.
President Kufuor later told Joy FM that he and Mr. Stoltenberg’s first port of call will be the United States and China, the countries reputed to produce the highest carbon emissions.
“We will meet their leaders and get their commitment to the Summit in September,” and support the cause, he added.
Touching on national efforts to deal with climate change, Mr. Kufuor said the efforts were not properly synchronized.
