Former President John Agyekum Kufuor is urging members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to put unity above all else as the party works to rebuild its strength ahead of future elections.
He says only a united front can restore public confidence and help the party govern effectively.
In an interview on The Delay Show hosted by Deloris Frimpong Manso, Mr Kufuor asked party members to set aside internal rifts and stand together for the principles and ideals that bind them.
“Unity is key to the NPP’s future progress. We might not be friends or allies, but because we all believe in the principles and ideals of the party, it is important to unite to push the party,” he said.
He stressed that unity not only influences electoral outcomes but also shapes how well a party governs.
According to him, voters trust a party that speaks with one voice. He said cohesion gives Ghanaians the confidence that the party can deliver when given the mandate.
“Ghanaians appreciate unity. We will be able to serve Ghanaians better if we are united to serve them well when we win power,” he added.
Mr Kufuor’s comments come at a time when the NPP is reorganising after its defeat in the 2024 general elections.
The party is preparing to elect its next flagbearer in January 2026, with renewed calls for members to work together and avoid the internal tensions that have slowed progress.
The former President believes unity remains the party’s most powerful tool.
He says it will determine not only whether the NPP wins future elections but also how well it can lead the country afterwards.
