Deputy Roads and Highways Minister, Alhassan Suhuyini, has reiterated that the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) remains committed to ending the abuse of sole sourcing in public procurement.
The Member of Parliament for Tamale North made the remarks on JoyNews Newsfile on Saturday, 28 March.
Speaking during discussions on the government’s Big Push infrastructure programme, Suhuyini stressed that the party has consistently highlighted procurement reforms in its campaign messaging.
“NDC promised to stop the abuse of sole sourcing,” he said, emphasising that the commitment remains central to the party’s governance agenda.
He noted that while sole sourcing is permitted under specific conditions within Ghana’s procurement framework, its misuse undermines transparency, competitiveness, and value for money in public spending.
Suhuyini highlighted the need for stricter adherence to procurement rules and greater accountability in contract awards.
The comments follow a report by The Fourth Estate, a project of the Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA), which raised concerns about procurement practices under the Big Push programme.
The report highlighted the extensive use of sole sourcing and potential cost inflation, alleging that 81 contracts valued at over GH¢73 billion were awarded through sole sourcing within seven months.
However, Minister for Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza, has disputed the claims, stating that only 44% of major contracts under the programme were sole-sourced.
The ongoing debate continues to draw attention to procurement transparency as a key issue in the rollout of the government’s flagship infrastructure initiative.
