The Volta Regional Security Council has directed all Municipal and District Assemblies to strictly enforce the mandatory wearing of face masks at the public places to curtail the spread of the coronavirus.
The Assemblies are to ensure ”No Masks, No Entry” signage are boldly displayed at the entrants of the various market centres, lorry stations and all public places.
This was necessitated by the increase in cases count for coronavirus, which stands at 84, with the Council attributing the fast spread of the virus to none compliance of the World Health Organization’s prescribed preventive protocols.
A press release signed by the Volta Regional Minister, Dr Archibald Letsa, indicated that transport, tricycle and motorcycle Unions are as well obliged to observe the directive.
”In effect, all drivers and passengers onboard commercial and private vehicles must wear their masks compulsory. Also all motor and tricycle operators and users should observe the ’No Masks, No Riding of Motorcycles’ protocol”, the release further stated.
The assemblies were also advised to intensify public education campaigns on observing the preventive protocols through all mediums available in collaboration with stakeholders.
Shopping malls, chop bars, drinking spots, shops and other commercial entities were entreated to ensure their customers wear face masks and observe the social distancing protocol at their various outfits.
The council, therefore, directed the assemblies to constitute a multi-stakeholder taskforce in their various jurisdictions to strictly enforce the adherence of the preventive protocols to keep the spread of COVID-19 in the region at bay.
Residents in the region were advised to cooperate with the assemblies in enforcing the directives to ensure their safety.
Out of the 84 coronavirus cases recorded in the region, 35 infected persons have been treated and discharged, pegging active cases at 47 with 2 deaths.
