West Africa Examination Council has ordered for the immediate change of examination center for students from Okomfo Anokye Senior High School at Wiamoase in the Ashanti Region for alleged examination malpractices in the on-going West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
The directive, which was issued this week, will see students from Okomfo Anokye Senior High School write the rest of their exams at the WAEC office in Kumasi.
The students, who were writing in the school premises as a center, are alleged to have been involved in various forms of examination malpractices. Some teachers from the school have also been implicated in the practice.
Ashanti Regional Public Relations Officer of Ghana Education Service (GES), Kasandrah Twum Ampofo, who confirmed the incidents to Nhyira News says the regional educational directorate has summoned authorities of the school for an emergency meeting on Saturday, April 5.
Ms. Twum Ampofo says WAEC officers paid an unannounced visit to the school on the 1st April, 2014 following a tip-off that some teachers were feeding students with solved questions by sending messages through social media platform,Whatsapp, in the examination room.
She says two teachers were arrested, when police and WAEC officers went to the school.
The arrest resulted in a scuffle between WAEC officers and the students but was later put under control by the police.
The embattled school was ranked third in the region and 15th in a nationwide ranking on the 2014 WAEC examination league table of second cycle institutions in Ghana.
However, the on-going revelations could cast doubt on the genuineness of their position.
Meanwhile, the headmaster of the school has declined to comment on the issue but noted that details of the incident has been forwarded to the Regional Educational Directorate.
