The Electoral Commission has described as unfair requests by the Ghana Medical Association for the Commission to be held responsible for failure of persons to adhere to Covid-19 safety protocols at registration centres.
The Commission says every Ghanaian has a role to play in ensuring that the protocols are observed at centers therefore apportioning blames to only the EC is not right.
"We are talking about adults who should know what is right therefore people should take their own health situations into their own hands," Director of Electoral Services at the Commission Dr. Serebour Quaicoe told JoyNews' Emefa Apau on Midday News.
The Ghana Medical Association earlier, made calls to government to hold the Electoral Commission responsible for the failure of registrants to observe Covid-19 safety protocols at registration centers.
The Medical Association says it fears the already increasing Covid-19 cases in the country may go up significantly as a result of failure of persons to observe the necessary protocols during the exercise.
It said the EC has a duty to ensure that persons taking part in the exercise strictly adhere to the protocols, hence if persons are not, then the EC must be held accountable.
Nonetheless, Dr. Serebour Quaicoe believes that public education will solve the problem rather than apportioning blames.
"Let us let people know the implications of their actions instead of putting out threats.
"The most important thing is that every Ghanaian must be committed to that. If you go there and you see that, the protocols are not working, help educate the people. I think that will give more results instead of the threats,” he said.
Meanwhile, the EC urged registrations to adhere to the Covid-19 safety protocols at registration centres.
