Member of Parliament for Nhyiaso, Stephen Amoah, says the Minority in Parliament has no legal basis for opposing the introduction of the electronic transfer levy.

According to the NPP MP, the Mahama administration imposed about 26 taxes on Ghanaians during their tenure in office thus, he has questioned the moral basis for the MPs threat to vote against the approval of the 2022 budget.

He said the actions of the NDC amount to hypocrisy and inconsistencies.

“The NDC claim they love Ghana, and they are social democrats who are supposed to implement policies to enhance the betterment of Ghanaians, but this is highly deceptive.

“Just recently, they [NDC MPs] were putting pressure on us to reduce taxes and said it was a matter of urgency and emergency. But the very people who were complaining are now putting pressure on government to restore road toll,” he said on Thursday.

He further accused the NDC of using their strength in Parliament to frustrate government business and derail the nation’s progress.

Addressing the media in Parliament, the former Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC) boss warned of dire consequences on the citizenry should Parliament fails to approve the 2022 budget.

“The recent actions and inactions of our colleagues on the minority side, it is crystal clear that because of the seeming balance in Parliament, they want to put impediments in our way going forward as a country.

“They try to disrupt all activities and impede everything about development and progress as a country. And it is time we took these behaviours extremely seriously not as NPP or NDC but even the media and the general public,” he was categorical.

He also called on the economic experts to provide concrete solutions to the myriad of challenges in the economy.

He cautioned them against unnecessary commentary, which adds no value to attempts by government to fix the problems.
