The Dansoman Circuit Court has remanded a 33-year-old driver accused of stealing a vehicle valued at GH¢240,000.
Anthony Atsu Godbless is facing charges of attempting to commit a crime, stealing, and causing unlawful damage.
He pleaded guilty to causing unlawful damage but denied the other charges.
Presiding Judge Halimah El-Alawa Abdul-Baasit ruled that the accused’s explanation aligned with his guilty plea on the damage charge and accordingly entered the plea.
“In the circumstances, the accused person shall be remanded into police custody until otherwise stated. Prosecution shall file disclosures and witness statements for the case management conference in respect of other counts (other charges),” the judge stated.
The case was adjourned to July 16, 2025.
Chief Inspector Portia Nuarko, prosecuting, said the complainant, Mr. Joshua Agbenorhevi, General Manager of Drive Track Limited, and Godbless reside in Dansoman and Kasoa, respectively.
In November 2024, Agbenorhevi and Godbless entered into a work-and-pay agreement under which Godbless took possession of a Nissan Note saloon car with registration number GW 9160-24, valued at GH¢240,000, payable over 51 months.
Godbless used the vehicle until June 30, 2025, when the complainant discovered the tracking device had been disabled.
Attempts to locate the vehicle and contact Godbless failed.
The matter was reported to the Dansoman Police on June 28, 2025.
Intelligence later indicated Godbless had intended to cross into Togo to sell the vehicle.
The prosecution said Godbless negotiated with two undercover police officers to sell the car for GH¢80,000.
He was arrested with assistance from the Aflao Police, and the vehicle was recovered.
Inspection revealed damage to the vehicle’s tracking device.
