The timelines for repair works on the Tema to Accra section of the Motorway have been revised from five weeks to one week.
According to the Roads and Highways Minister, Alhaji Aminu Sulemani, the engineers believe the change will not affect the quality work to be done.
Since last week, engineers from the Ghana Highway Authority and contractors have been undertaking repair works on a damaged bridge on the motorway.
The development of a crater on some parts of the bridge resulted in heavy vehicular congestion. Engineers from the Authority subsequently diverted traffic to make way for repair works on the damaged bridge which officials initially said would last five weeks.
However, in an interaction with president John Mahama who visited the site early Wednesday, the engineers announced they could finish in a week.
Alhaji Aminu Sulemani told JoyNews that the circumstances that led to the earlier timeline had changed.
"There was a lot of vibration there so we estimated that we might have to replace some other materials under but as a result of the pressure and the traffic we decided to do further investigations...and we realised that the slabs are still very intact...that's why we have revised the time," Mr. Aminu told Joy News.

Meanwhile, President Mahama has instructed the engineers to open the inner lane to traffic as the complete closure of both lanes had compounded vehicular congestion on the Accra end of the motorway. He appealed to commuters to exercise restraints over the huge traffic situation on that road.
He said government had entered into discussions with some investors to reconstruct the entire motorway into a new six lane dual carriage way. Work will begin as soon as procurement is done, the president added.
