A financial crimes court in Accra has adjourned hearing of an application for a reduction in the bail bond for businessman Alfred Woyome to tomorrow. State prosecutors in court today pleaded for time to study the bail motion, saying they were only served yesterday. According to Chief State Attorney Cynthia Lamptey, the law requires at least three days notice before the case is heard. The judge, Aget-Hansam, subsequently adjourned the case to Thursday 16. Meanwhile, Sammy Darko of JOY NEWS reports lawyers of Mr. Woyome have indicated it would be impossible for Mr. Woyome to presently satisfy the GHC54 million bail bond. Although aides to Mr. Woyome has earlier indicated they had mobilized in excess of GHC80 million worth of property, JOYNEWS has learnt they were unable meet the strict requirements. The property, after valuation, was found to be far less than 54 million cedis. Mr Woyome is said to be finding it difficult to find two people with property to the tune of the bail bond to stand as surety. Alfred Agbesi Woyome will need, for example, property of the size of the entire Trassaco valley residential estates. His lawyers feel this is too punitive and will impede their efforts at securing the release of their client, whose human rights they say is being unnecessarily abused.
