Twelve-year-old Yamin Amankwah Boamah, a student of Monterey Middle School, emerged as one of Ghana’s brightest young talents at this year’s Africa Aquatics Zone 2 Swimming Championships.
Competing as the youngest swimmer and a debutant, Yamin impressed with his resilience and determination across multiple events.
He won bronze in the 1500m Juniors Freestyle after a brilliant performance that earned him applause from spectators.
Yamin also put up an impressive time of 2:51 in the 200m backstroke, further showcasing his potential among some of the region’s best young swimmers.
He also helped Ghana secure silver as part of the 4x200m freestyle relay team, contributing to the host nation’s strong finish at the competition.
Yamin competed in the men’s 400m IM Juniors, where he finished fifth, a commendable feat for a first-timer at just 12 years old.
Having achieved two medals and several personal bests, the young swimmer says he is motivated to keep improving and hopes to represent Ghana in future international events, with his sights set on the African Games and the Olympic Games.
