Asamoah Gyan sat out Ghana’s opening training session on Tuesday evening ahead of the crucial 2014 World Cup playoff against Egypt.
The Black Stars captain took his place on the sidelines as he watched his teammates train at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The Al Ain ace was not treated while on the sidelines – raising further uncertainties over why he did not take part in the session.
Seventeen players took opened session presided over by coach Akwasi Appiah and the rest of his backroom staff.
The session started off with light jogging and stretches after which Michael Essien and Andre Ayew pulled out.
The Olympique Marseille forward had his right ankle heavily strapped in ice as he watched the remainder of the session from the sidelines.
The 23-year-old appears to have a very minimal injury concern and was presumably withdrawn from the session as a precaution.
Ghana FA boss Kwesi Nyantankyi and a host of top Ghana FA officials also observed the session.
Ex Black Stars players and former Ghana coach Osam Duodoo were also present at the opening session.
Coach Akwasi Appiah expects to have his full set before Wednesday’s session as the remaining six players are expected to arrive on Tuesday night.
Ghana will be hosting Egypt in the first leg of the World Cup playoff tie on October 15 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.
Ghana players in camp:
