The 2025 Japanese Ambassador’s Cup, a prestigious martial arts championship featuring four traditional Japanese disciplines in Judo, Karate-do, Kendo, and Jiujitsu, has been officially launched in Accra.
The launch took place on October 22, 2025, at the Embassy of Japan in Ghana, and was led by His Excellency Hiroshi Yoshimoto, the Japanese Ambassador to Ghana.
Ambassador Yoshimoto expressed his appreciation to the various martial arts federations for their collaboration and commitment to making this year’s championship a success.
“I would like to commend the four Budo organizations—Judo, Karate, Kendo, and Ju-Jitsu—for taking the initiative, for the first time, to jointly organize this combined tournament and hold this press conference together,” H.E. Hiroshi Yoshimoto said.
Speaking at the event, the President of the Ghana Karate-do Federation emphasised that the championship would further boost Ghana’s international reputation in martial arts, particularly in Karate.
“Martial arts is more than a sport; it is a discipline that builds character, resilience, and leadership among our youth and athletes. Through this event, we aim to elevate Ghana’s profile in international martial arts, showcase our athletes’ dedication, and deepen the bonds of friendship between Ghana and Japan,,” said President, Ghana Karate-do Federation
The 2025 Japanese Ambassador’s Cup is scheduled to take place from November 15 to 16, 2025, at the DG Hathiramani Sports Hall, located at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The two-day event will not only highlight thrilling martial arts contests but also celebrate the rich cultures and traditions of both Ghana and Japan, further strengthening the ties of friendship between the two nations.
