A 22-year-old student, Samson Ayittey, is in critical condition at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital after he was allegedly beaten by three police officers in the Eastern Region. The boy was allegedly assaulted by the officers for riding a commercial motor bike. Samson Ayittey was transferred to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital from the Presbyterian Hospital in Donkokrom following a deterioration of his health after the assault.Manager of the Presbyterian Hospital in Donkorkrom, Kwaku Fianko-Gyan said doctors who attended to the boy told him the boy was feverish, and blood coming from his nose and ears suggests he could have been assaulted.Father of the victim, Charles Biney, who narrated what happened to Joy News said the boy called him earlier from school to inform him that he was coming home due to ill-health. But a few hours later somebody phoned to tell him his son has been beaten by some police office in Donkokrom.According to him, when he got to the location where his son had been allegedly assaulted, he saw blood on the floor, and his son had been sent to the hospital. The father followed up to the hospital and saw that his son had been seriously wounded with blood coming out from his ears and nose.According the boy’s father, when he contacted the Police Commander, he denied knowledge of the incident, and rather directed him to bring the boy to court the next day. He said this directive surprised him as the boy was sick and wounded.Deputy Eastern regional Police Commander, ACP James Abass Abaah, has declined an interview except to say the report was a fabrication and not a representation of the full facts.
