Fifty youth selected from the worst affected flood communities in the Agona West Municipality and Agona East District of the Central Region will benefit from entrepreneurial skills to improve their livelihood. Mr Emmanuel Ankamah, National Co-ordinator of the Presbyterian Relief Service and Development (PRSD), a non-profit organisation of the Presbyterian Church, made this known at a two-day Disaster Management Capacity Building workshop for 35 people drawn from the beneficiary assemblies at the weekend. He said the training which would begin from January 2011 would be financed by the PRSD. The workshop organised by PRSD, was aimed at equipping the participants with disaster management skills and to acquire training in batik, tie and dye, soap and pomade production, screen printing, business management and book keeping. Mr Ankamah said his outfit would also supply text books and furniture to schools affected by the disaster. He said PRSD had promoted education, health, water and sanitation, community development and women empowerment towards the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals. Mr Jacob Felix Obeng-Forson, Agona West Municipal Chief Executive said the disaster which caused havoc at Agona Swedru, Nyakrom, Nsaba, Duakwa, Domoki and other villages also collapsed bridges and destroyed more than 750 acreages of farms. He appealed to public-spirited individuals and organisations to come to the aid of the assembly to resettle the victims. Reverend Daniel Oppong-Wereko, Executive Director of PRSD said the church would continue to play its role in helping the worst affected disaster areas to alleviate the suffering of the people.
