An eight-year-old girl is reported dead a day after she was defiled.
The little girl was allegedly defiled by Abdulai Mohammed in Sang near Yendi in the Northern Region.
The suspect, 34-year-old Abdullah Mohammed claimed he is the deceased’s boyfriend. Mr Mohammed allured the victim into a room and allegedly forcibly had carnal knowledge of her. The little girl died upon arrival at the Yendi Government Hospital.
The accused has been remanded in prison custody while investigations continue.
Chief Inspector Ebenezer Tetteh, Public Relations Officer of the Northern Regional Police Command, told Joy News the little girl “went home and never told anybody, it was the following day that she started complaining, so they took her to hospital but she died on arrival”.
He said a sister of the deceased allegedly conspired with the husband to deceive the chief of the area that the family had agreed that the girl be buried.
“This shouldn’t be the case, because it was formally being handled by the police, [an] inquest should have been conducted to determine the actual cause of death.”
He confirmed that Abdullah Mohammed has been arrested and the sister of the deceased and the husband are being questioned for “hindrance of inquest”.
