One of the candidates running Chairmanship for the Ghana Boxing Authority(GBA) ,Henry Manly Spain has promised to construct the first National Boxing Arena if elected as the chairman of the discipline. Ghana as a boxing nation has been without a boxing arena or multi-purpose sport hall and it has been a major topic for discussion since gone by governments had failed to deliver the edifice . According to the boxing administrator and philanthropist, he will partner government to implement the plan of building a boxing arena which could cost up to 4 million US dollars. Henry Manly-Spain who is renowned businessman and served under the erstwhile Samir Captan- led administration as a board member and has told JOY Sports in an interview he is committed to overseeing the construction of an office for the Authority as well. "I know the construction of a boxing arena would cost a loed to helping t of money but I am committed to partnering with government to ensure that this is done if I am given the nod," he told a meeting with the United Boxing Coaches Association of Ghana at the Will Power Gym in Accra. Manly-Spain devoted a lot of financial resources to the promotion of big bouts over the years in Ghana is also prepared to do more. "I would partner with the government to ensure we raise the funds necessary for the project. I would personally put in funds and we would seek some sponsorship from corporate Ghana. We need an office where we can operate freely and deal with the public of the fraternity." he added. Former board members of the previous administration, Francis Decland, Mr. Peter Zwennes and immediate past GBA Chairman, Samir Captan are other candidates vying for the Chairmanship position.The elections comes off on Thursday.
