Emmanuel Frimpong made his first appearance for Ghana in their 4-0 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifying win over Sudan in Kumasi and he was excited to finally pull on the national shirt.
Frimpong represented England at Under 16 and Under 17 levels before switching nationality to make his Ghana bow on Sunday.
He put in an assured performance in his first display for the Black Stars.
“It’s a fantastic opportunity for me. I made my feeling clear I wanted to play for Ghana and the coach gave me this opportunity,” Frimpong said after the game.
“It is a great day for my family and for me and it’s a day I would cherish for the rest of my life.”
The Fulham midfielder, who started his childhood career in Kumasi was introduced in the 67th minute as the Black Stars went on to win 4-0 to close in the gap at the top of the Group D standings to one point and behind Zambia.
“After beating Sudan, we have a great chance. We just have to continue working hard and see how is goes. We want to go to Brazil.”
