Police in the Northern Region has assured the public of utmost security in Yendi and its environs as the funeral rites of Yaa Naa Yakubu Andani II continues.
The funeral was put on hold amid renewed clashes that led to the death of at least one person and burning down of several homes.
In a press statement on Saturday, the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II who is superintending the peace process said the funeral rites will continue on Sunday according to the roadmap.
This, the statement said is “to pave way for the performance of the funeral by the elders of the Andani royal family.”
Following this, the police have reinforced their presence in the area.
Speaking to the media, Northern regional police PRO ASP Yussif Tanko said the police will take critical measures to ensure the safety of the area is not breached.
“We are going to search vehicles as they come in and go out...and also search suspicious persons and make sure they do not come in with arms…” he said.
Meanwhile, the Andani family wants the police to carry out a search and retrieve arms and ammunition from the Nayilifon area were gunshots were fired on Friday which disrupted the funeral.
