Two people are in police custody at Wa whilst a third suspect is on admission at the Wa government hospital for treatment of injuries following a violent clash on Friday by two rival claimants to a piece of land in the town.
Two motor bikes were also burnt during the clash in which Mumuni Issah and Mutawakilu Issah, both members of the Suuriyiri section of Wa, were arrested whilst Majeeb Salifu from Tagirayiri another section in the heart of the town was admitted at the hospital with injuries from the clash.
The people of Suuriyiri and the Sungumo family of Tagirayiri had over the years disagreed over the ownership of the land and were advised by the Police to settle the issue in court.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Edmond Nyamekye, the Regional Police Public Relations Officer told the Ghana News Agency in Wa on Friday that, at about 1130 hours, the Police had information that the two rival claimants had clashed over the piece of land.
He said the Sungumo family from Tagirayiri were demarcating the land when some people of Suuriyiri allegedly attacked them and burnt two motor bikes.
ASP Nyamekye said Mumuni Issah and Muntawaklu Issah were in their custody at the Wa Regional Police Station whilst Majeeb Salifu was on admission at the Wa Regional hospital.
He appealed to residents of the town not to panic as the Police were in total control of the situation.
