Tema Youth played a determined game to beat Obuasi Ashgold 2-0 in the opening Premier League match played at the Robert Mensah Stadium, Cape Coast on Sunday.
Right from the referee’s whistle it was Tema Youth who dictated the pace of the game but had to wait until the 36th minute when outside right Ekow Benson connected home a free-kick to register the first goal.
The striking force of Ashgold made up of Alex Asamaoh, Stephen Afful, Prince Antwi and Sumaila Nyaya combined beautifully and nearly found the equalizer in the 56th minute but Mubarak Wakaso’s shot was miraculously saved by goalkeeper Ernest Sowah in the Tema Youth posts.
The hope of Ashgold for at least a draw was shattered when Tema Youth’s midfielder, Edward Affum increased his sides tally in the 85th minute and held on to their lead up to the end of proceedings.
